Thermoelastic behavior of biological tissue with double porosity and temperature-dependent properties using L-S theory

Purpose The present manuscript is concerned with the development of a two-dimensional half-space model of a homogeneous, isotropic, double porous bio-thermoelastic medium characterized by temperature-dependent properties (TDP). Solutions for the associated field quantities, namely displacement, stress distribution, temperature variation and equilibrated stresses, are derived and examined in the physical domain. Design/methodology/approach The governing equations are formulated and solved through normal mode analysis. Findings Numerical computations have been performed using MATLAB software and the obtained results are presented through graphical illustrations. A comparative analysis has been carried out to investigate the influence of pores, fissures, blood perfusion rate, time and different thermoelastic theories on the physical quantities under consideration. The graphical observations reveal that double porosity, blood perfusion and temporal variations significantly affect the behavior of the field variables. Originality/value The present study examines the influence of double porosity, volume fraction fields, blood perfusion rate and time in a bio-thermoelastic material with TDP. Although numerous studies have addressed the response of bio-thermoelastic media under various physical effects, the combined influence of pores, fissures and temperature-dependent material characteristics has received little attention in the existing literature. The findings of this investigation are expected to be valuable for the analysis of heat transfer and mechanical responses in biological tissues, particularly in applications involving double porosity and TDP.
