Manajemen Diabetes Mellitus Tipe-2 dan Derajat Neuropati di Prolanis
Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus can trigger complications like diabetic neuropathy due to chronic hyperglycemia impairing peripheral nerves. Proper diabetes management is crucial to slow its progression. Objective: To determine the relationship between type 2 Diabetes Mellitus management and the degree of diabetic neuropathy among Participants at Puskesmas Purwokerto Barat. Methods: A quantitative correlational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 40 patients selected via purposive sampling. Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) instrument, while diabetic neuropathy was assessed using the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) and a 10-g monofilament. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test (alpha=0.05). Results: Most respondents (70.0%) had good diabetes management. Based on MNSI, respondents experienced mild neuropathy (75.0%), no neuropathy (17.5%), and severe neuropathy (7.5%). The Spearman test showed a significant relationship between diabetes management and neuropathy degree based on MNSI (p=0.030); (r=0.343), but not significant for monofilament results (p=0.113); (r=0.255). Conclusion: A significant relationship exists between type 2 Diabetes Mellitus management and the degree of diabetic neuropathy based on MNSI, but not on monofilament examination. Better management correlates with milder neuropathy.
