Bringing scientific instruments into the PID ecosystem
Scientific instruments are fundamental research assets that enable scientific knowledge production. Despite their central role, instruments are largely absent from the persistent identifier (PID) ecosystem. Materials Instruments addresses this gap by developing an open infrastructure that improves instrument discoverability, interoperability, and reuse in materials science. The service contributes to strengthening FAIR research infrastructures by enabling structured instrument metadata, persistent identification, and connections to related research outputs.
