Diagnóstico e intervención de enfermedades infecciosas desatendidas y crónicas no trasmisibles prevalentes en poblaciones en riesgo de la parroquia Sucre del Cantón 24 de Mayo.

Neglected infectious diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases constitute two major public health challenges; Diabetes Mellitus follows a prolonged, progressive course, whereas dengue is vector-borne, increasing the epidemiological burden and complicating laboratory diagnosis. The study aimed to analyze the laboratory diagnosis and intervention regarding prevalent neglected infectious diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases in at-risk populations within the Sucre parish of the 24 de Mayo Canton. An observational, analytical, cross-sectional, and prospective methodology was implemented using a convenience sample of 37 participants selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria; ethics committee approval was obtained, ensuring compliance with all established requirements. Results demonstrated a dengue prevalence of 5.4% (n=2) with 97.3% (n=36) serological evidence of IgG antibodies and a Diabetes Mellitus prevalence of 5.4% (n=2), with a female predominance in both conditions. Statistical analysis revealed no significant association between dengue and Diabetes Mellitus (p=0.848/ns). An educational intervention trained 100% of the participants, strengthening disease prevention and self-care practices. The study concluded that the at-risk population exhibits a low prevalence of active dengue alongside previous viral exposure and an emerging risk of prediabetes both more pronounced in women with no direct statistical association between the two diseases; these laboratory findings support the null hypothesis, underscoring the need for sustained preventive strategies.
