PEMETAAN POTENSI TONGKOL JAGUNG SEBAGAI BIOMASSA ENERGI DI PROVINSI GORONTALO: KAJIAN BERBASIS STATISTIK DAN SKENARIO KETERSEDIAAN

ABSTRACT Corn is the dominant commodity of Gorontalo Province, yet its cobs remain an underused residue. This study maps the potential of corncob biomass in the province using a scenario-based mass and energy balance. Provincial production was taken from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for 2024 and 2025 (625,972 and 653,290 t of shelled maize at 14% moisture) and from provincial administrative reports (1.2 million t) as an upper scenario. Dry cob mass was estimated with a cob-to-grain ratio (base 0.13) and an availability factor (base 0.60), allocated to regencies using 2021 harvested-area shares as a preliminary spatial proxy, and converted to energy using a lower heating value of 17.35 MJ kg-1. In the base scenario, theoretical cob potential is about 84,900 t per year and available potential about 51,000 t (range 26,000-84,000 t), equal to roughly 884 TJ or 49 GWh of electricity at 20% efficiency. Boalemo, Pohuwato, Gorontalo and Gorontalo Utara account for about 97% of the proxy allocation, which is intended to prioritize field surveys rather than represent actual 2025 regency-level supply. Sensitivity analysis shows that the choice of production dataset dominates uncertainty, followed by availability and the cob ratio. A structured qualitative screening based on technology maturity and complexity, feedstock-conditioning requirements, scale and capital intensity, and local logistical fit identifies densification into pellets or briquettes as the most practical initial pathway, while bioethanol and chemicals remain longer-term options. The findings are desk-based estimates and require field validation of production, availability and fuel properties before investment decisions.
