Design and Simulation of a Digital Temperature Monitoring and Alarm System Using a Microprocessor Training Kit

Temperature monitoring with an alarm function is needed in laboratories, storage rooms and industrial equipment. This paper presents a digital temperature monitoring and alarm system designed around a microprocessor training kit. A temperature sensor signal is digitized by an analog-to-digital converter, converted to degrees Celsius by software, shown on a display and compared with an adjustable threshold that triggers an audible and visual alarm. Calibration, resolution and alarm accuracy are evaluated. In simulation the measurement error was 0.19 °C on average (at most 1 °C) with a resolution of 1 °C per ADC step, and the alarm activated at 59.42 °C (SD 0.31 °C) for a 60 °C threshold.
