The Changing Role of Higher Education Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: A Longitudinal Qualitative Study

The Changing Role of Higher Education Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: A Longitudinal Qualitative Study How have higher education institutions responded to artificial intelligence between 2022 and 2026? This study examines changes in higher education leadership responses to AI through publicly available institutional policies, guidelines, governance reports, and strategic communications from 11 universities. It considers institutional responses across four analytical periods: emergence, adaptation, integration, and institutionalization. The study contributes to higher education leadership research by examining how institutional AI guidance has developed and how universities have addressed academic integrity, ethical use, AI literacy, teaching and learning, and institutional governance. I welcome researchers, educators, and higher education professionals to read, share, and engage with this study.
