Toward the Origin: Does the Universe Need a Beginning?

ENGLISH Critical scoping review of the Borde–Guth–Vilenkin (BGV) theorem, geodesic completeness, and conditions for the viability of cosmologies without a beginning, with a literature search cut-off of 31 October 2026. It distinguishes the beginning of the hot Big Bang phase, past geodesic incompleteness, extendibility, stability, past duration, and an absolute origin of physical reality. The review draws on a previous corpus of 94 references and an INSPIRE-HEP retrieval of 643 BGV-citing records, of which 219 match the 2022–2026 filter; documentary screening and inventory checks produced an inventory of 119 references. This inventory is not equivalent to 119 independently verified mathematical proofs, and the targeted search is not an exhaustive review of cosmological literature. The synthesis compares kinematic incompleteness conditions, extension regularity, NEC/ANEC-dependent restrictions, positive-curvature and slow-contraction examples, and stability requirements. The reviewed results neither establish absolute creation from nothing nor verify that our universe has existed eternally. This is a critical synthesis, not a new cosmological theory. Version 1. English and Spanish editions deposited together.
