UPAYA PENDIDIK DALAM MEMBENTUK KECERDASAN EMOSIONAL SANTRI MELALUI PENDEKATAN DISIPLIN POSITIF
This study addresses the issue of violence in pesantren. Such violence can impact students' emotional development, leading to increased aggression, rebelliousness, and irritability issues. The study focuses on educators' efforts to foster students' emotional intelligence through positive discipline. A qualitative research approach with a case study design was employed. The study was conducted at the MQBS Islamic Boarding School in Bengkalis Regency, a coastal area of Riau, utilizing in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation for data collection. The findings indicate that educators within the boarding school environment can cultivate emotional intelligence using a positive discipline approach. Educators must prepare themselves and engage in continuous learning to strengthen their emotional attributes—such as patience, empathy, resilience, and the ability to serve as role models—and develop skills such as non-judgmental listening, placing trust in students without abdicating responsibility, and guiding students without resorting to threats. Emotional intelligence fostered through positive discipline involves teaching social skills and competencies that support students' emotional growth, including respect, interpersonal interaction, problem-solving, and cooperation. The positive discipline approach serves as a strategy for developing students' emotional intelligence within the Islamic boarding school environment, which possesses characteristics distinct from those of formal schools.
