Analysis of the Quality of Environmental Education Poster Design as a Learning Medium for Elementary School Students

This study aims to analyze the quality of environmental education poster designs as learning media for elementary school students in terms of visual aspects, readability, conformity with graphic design principles, and pedagogical suitability with the characteristics of elementary school students. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach involving 28 respondents consisting of students of the Educational Technology Study Program at Surabaya State University and the general public. The selection of respondents was based on the consideration that Educational Technology students have relevant background knowledge in the field of learning media design and student characteristics, while the general public provides a broader end-user perspective, resulting in a more objective and comprehensive assessment of the quality of media designs aimed at elementary school students. Data were collected through an online questionnaire based on 15 Likert scale statements from 1–5. The data analysis technique was carried out descriptively quantitatively by calculating percentages and average scores. The results showed that the overall poster design quality reached 90.24% (average 4.51) and was categorized as Very Good. The illustration aspect received the highest rating (92.62%), followed by layout (90.95%), while typography (88.57%) and color contrast were relatively lower. This study concluded that the evaluated environmental education posters met graphic design standards and pedagogical suitability, although they still needed improvement in the typography and color contrast aspects. This study recommends visual media design training for elementary school teachers to improve the quality of environmental education posters in the future.
