Economy in the Minimalist Theory: A Syntactic Analysis of English Sentences
Abstract: Five English sentences were examined in both previous Chomsky’s theories and the minimalist one to account for economy. A contrastive analysis of the two theories in the examination of the five sentences revealed that rules, applied in the previous Chomsky’s theories, were reduced into binary merging operation of constituents. This radical shift denoted economy in the minimalist theory.
