VATASHTEELA IN RELATION TO BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA: A COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL AND CLASSICAL REVIEW

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) represents one of the most widespread non-malignant conditions affecting aging males worldwide, leading to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and significant quality-of-life impairment. In classical Ayurvedic medicine, a striking pathophysiological and clinical parallel exists under the concept of Vatashteela, a major sub-category of Mutraghata. This review article correlates classical Ayurvedic descriptions of Vatashteela with modern medical perspectives on BPH. Adhering to structured clinical reporting criteria, we examine the etiology, prevalence, Samhita-wise classical literature, pathogenesis (Samprapti vs. cell proliferation), clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation including traditional Pariksha and modern laboratory/imaging parameters, and management strategies across both systems of medicine.
