Urban Innovation for a Developed India: Bengaluru’s Knowledge Economy, Digital Governance and Sustainable Urban Transition: A Case Study in the Context of Viksit Bharat @2047

Cities increasingly shape national productivity, technological capability, employment, and the quality of public life. India’s aspiration to become a developed country by 2047 therefore depends in part on whether its urban centres can combine innovation with effective governance, environmental responsibility, and social inclusion. Bengaluru offers a useful case for examining this relationship. Its development from an administrative and public-sector industrial centre into a globally connected technology and startup hub reflects the cumulative effects of scientific institutions, skilled labour, information technology, entrepreneurship, research networks, and public policy. Yet the city’s economic success coexists with congestion, water stress, environmental deterioration, housing unaffordability, and fragmented metropolitan administration. Keywords: Startup Ecosystem; Sustainable Urban Development; Bengaluru; Digital Governance; Urban innovation; Viksit Bharat @2047; metropolitan governance; inclusive growth.
