Development of a Wireless Content Management System for Large Outdoor LED Advertising Screens

Outdoor LED advertising screens are often located in places that are difficult to reach, so content must be updated remotely. This paper presents the development of a wireless content management system for large outdoor LED advertising screens. A server application stores media files and playlists and schedules them, and a controller at the screen receives them over a wireless link, plays them according to the schedule and reports its status. Update time, reliability after link or power failure, and security measures are evaluated by calculation and simulation. In simulation a 20 MB video reached the screen in 26 s on average, playlists switched within 171 ms of the scheduled time, playback continued from the cache during every outage and 114 of 114 corrupted transfers were detected by the checksum.
