Perbandingan Kinerja Campuran Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) dan Campuran AC-WC pada Aspal Penetrasi 60-70

Damage to road pavement layers in Indonesia often occurs before reaching their planned lifespan, such as cracking, deformation, and potholes, mainly due to the influence of the tropical climate and heavy traffic volume. The type of Asphalt Concrete-Wearing Course (AC-WC) mixture that is widely used is often unable to withstand long-term deformation. Based on these conditions, this study was conducted to determine the performance comparison between Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) and AC-WC mixtures using 60/70 penetration asphalt, with the aim of identifying a wearing course that is more resistant to heavy traffic loads and environmental conditions. The tests conducted were based on the Marshall Test, Immersion Test, and Cantabro Loss, with parameters of stability, flow, void in mixture (VIM), void in aggregate (VMA), density, and water resistance. The results showed that the AC-WC mixture had a high stability value (1111 kg), while SMA had a low stability value (703 kg) with a lower Cantabro Loss value (5.04%) compared to AC-WC (7.05%). The aggregate structure interlocks in SMA, and the use of 0.3% viatop 66 cellulose fiber increases adhesion, making it more resistant to wear and water and preventing draindown. Both mixtures have their own good performance, AC-WC is superior in load stability, but SMA is better in durability and deformation resistance, so it is recommended as an alternative wearing course on roads with heavy traffic, because of its longer-lasting performance.
