Penerapan Metode Pursed Lips Breathing Dengan Media Kincir Angin Dalam Mengatasi Pola Napas Tidak Efektif Pada Pasien Bronkopneumonia

Background: Bronchopneumonia is one of the infectious diseases of the respiratory system that can cause respiratory problems in children, one of which is characterized by an increased respiratory rate. Pursed Lips Breathing is a breathing exercise that can help control breathing and is combined with a windmill-blowing medium to make the exercise more engaging. Objectives: To determine the application of the Pursed Lips Breathing method using a windmill-blowing medium on respiratory rate in patients with bronchopneumonia in the Tiung 2 Ward. Methods: This study used a descriptive case study with a nursing process approach. Three pediatric patients with bronchopneumonia who experienced ineffective breathing patterns were included. Pursed Lips Breathing was performed for three days, and respiratory rate was measured before and after the intervention. Results: In the first patient, the respiratory rate decreased from 43 breaths/minute to 40 breaths/minute on the first day and from 35 breaths/minute to 33 breaths/minute on the third day. In the second patient, the respiratory rate decreased from 48 breaths/minute to 46 breaths/minute on the first day and from 42 breaths/minute to 40 breaths/minute on the third day. In the third patient, the respiratory rate decreased from 49 breaths/minute to 45 breaths/minute on the first day and from 43 breaths/minute to 42 breaths/minute on the third day. In addition to the decrease in respiratory rate, the patients' respiratory conditions also showed improvement. Conclusions: Pursed Lips Breathing using a windmill-blowing medium for three days showed a decrease in respiratory rate in all three pediatric patients with bronchopneumonia. The use of a windmill-blowing medium also helped increase the children's interest and cooperation during the breathing exercise.
