Research Cooperation Among Youth Organizations in Russia and Abroad: Key Areas and Prospects
This article analyzes research-oriented cooperation among youth organizations in Russia and other countries, while identifying key directions and prospects for such engagement amidst the ongoing transformation of international relations. The author notes that young people — who make up a significant portion of the global and Russian population — serve as a primary driver of social change and a source of new initiatives. The study highlights that, in recent years, the international activities of Russian universities have shifted toward partners in China, Asia, the BRICS nations, and Latin America, whereas institutional cooperation with the United States has effectively come to a standstill. Particular attention is given to the role of international youth organizations (such as JCI, AIESEC, Global Shapers, the World Federation of Democratic Youth, and IUSY), which function as platforms for cross-border dialogue. By examining the operations of various global and national associations (including the World Federation of Democratic Youth, the «Bruderboard» network, and MAFUN), the author defines the essential characteristics and criteria of a youth organization: the presence of a defined purpose, a membership base, autonomous governance, a formal structure, established rules, and a charter. The article concludes that there is a global trend toward the functional — rather than ideological — differentiation of youth structures, and underscores the need for a legal framework to govern their activities, which is essential for the constructive socialization of young people and the development of civil society.
