The Relationship Between The Knowledge Level Of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus And Self-management Behavior At UPTD KedatonPublic Health Center, Bandar Lampung City

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease that requires long-term management through self-management behaviors to prevent complications. One of the factors presumed to influence self-management behavior is patients knowledge of diabetes. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the knowledge level of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and their self-management behavior at UPTD Kedaton Public Health Center, Bandar Lampung City. This quantitative study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 30 patients participated in the instrument validity and reliability testing, while 62 respondents were selected as the study sample using the Slovin formula and an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through structured interviews using the Diabetic Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ-24) and the Diabetic Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ). The data were analyzed using univariate analysis and Kendall's Tau-C test. The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge (58,1%) and good self-management behavior (80,6%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between patients knowledge level and self-management behavior (p-value 0.032; p-value < 0.05). It can be concluded that a higher level of knowledge is associated with better self-management behavior. Continuous health education should therefore be strengthened to improve patients ability to manage diabetes independently.
