Components of the sports tourism industry in light of the Kingdom of Bahrain's Vision 2030

This study investigates the key components required to build a sustainable sports tourism industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain in alignment with its Economic Vision 2030. Using a descriptive survey approach, data were collected from 267 stakeholders in the tourism and sports sectors. The findings reveal that Bahrain combines natural, human, material, and financial resources conducive to sports tourism development. Human resources emerged as the most influential factor, supported by professional expertise and a strong volunteer culture in Bahraini society. Natural assets including Bahrain’s strategic geographical location, islands, and heritage further enhance its tourism appeal. Bahrain’s expanding infrastructure and strong high-level leadership support reinforce its position as a regional sports tourism destination. However, despite this strong backing, the study found variation in respondents’ views regarding budget allocations, reflecting differences between the funding of major and smaller events. This pattern underscores the need to revisit investment strategies to maximize the sustainable economic benefits of sports tourism and further diversify the sector. The study also contributes to the regional literature by providing actionable insights for policymakers and sports institutions across Bahrain, the Gulf region, and international stakeholders.
