Analysis of Coastal Abrasion Vulnerability at Pasar Bawah Beach, South Bengkulu, Using Landsat Imagery
Recently, Pasar Bawah Beach has been facing the risk of rapid abrasion, threatening damage to the infrastructure around the beach. This study aims to identify the rate of abrasion and map changes in the coastline and the characteristics of parameters that influence abrasion at Pasar Bawah Beach in Manna, South Bengkulu. Based on the research findings, the abrasion rate at Pasar Bawah Beach is high, with a total shoreline retreat of 57 m and accretion of 38 m. Based on the maps and analysis of abrasion rates, most of the Pasar Bawah Beach area experienced significant abrasion in 2022-2023 and 2020-2021, with higher abrasion rates in areas directly exposed to ocean waves with a significant wave height (Hs) of 0.5136 m. The coastline changes map shows a significant shift in the coastline. The abrasion rate is primarily influenced by strong ocean currents, high wave energy, and coastal geomorphology. Sandy–muddy sediments and steep coastal morphology increase the shoreline's susceptibility to erosion, resulting in higher abrasion rates.
