The Chaotic Dispersion Defeater: A Sub-Argument from the Non-Uniformity of Causal Effects
Abstract This paper formalizes the Chaotic Dispersion Defeater, a distinct sub-argument embedded within the broader framework of the Argument from the Non-Uniformity of Causal Effects. While the parent argument establishes the structural topology of asymmetric causal weights, the Chaotic Dispersion Defeater isolates the kinetic, dynamic mechanics of non-linear histories. By analyzing reality as a continuous, hyper-sensitive Structural Causal Model, this sub-argument focuses explicitly on how infinitesimal micro-variances compound exponentially over time. We demonstrate that the standard skeptical assumption of surgical counterfactual extraction, which is the idea that a benevolent deity could cleanly eliminate a localized instance of suffering while leaving the macro-structures of history intact, is a mathematical fallacy. Because every micro-event is tightly integrated into the cosmic web, any intervention triggers a chaotic dispersion that completely dissolves downstream reality, rendering the net value of alternative timelines fundamentally incomputable. Consequently, the evidential inference from observed suffering to gratuitous evil is structurally defeated.
