Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teaching, Learning, and Research

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping teaching, learning, and research by offering tools that can support educational practice and academic work. This paper examines AI applications in education, their potential benefits, associated challenges, and ethical implications. It considers how AI can assist teachers with lesson planning, instructional materials, assessment, and feedback; support students through personalized learning and explanations of academic concepts; and help researchers with literature searches, data analysis, reference organization, and academic writing. Drawing on a review of existing literature, the paper identifies opportunities to improve educational efficiency, accessibility, and academic productivity. It also highlights concerns involving data privacy, algorithmic bias, inaccurate outputs, academic dishonesty, unequal access to technology, and overdependence on AI tools. The literature points to the importance of user training, ethical guidelines, institutional support, and critical evaluation of AI-generated content (Maphalala & Ajani, 2025; Khatri & Karki, 2023). The paper argues that AI should complement—not replace—teachers, learners, and researchers. Responsible integration requires a balance between technological innovation and human judgment, creativity, critical thinking, and academic integrity.
