An Outcome Evaluation for Refugee Mental Health Education: Pathways to Wellness Curriculum at World Relief Durham

Refugees and other new immigrant arrivals to the USA have a primary need to access the “two-way street” between themselves and receiving populations that enables effective communication between one another and provides the means of living effectively in community together. Cultural orientation is one of the most common core components of advancing the self-sufficiency goals that refugee resettlement agencies are federally required to implement for their work with newly arrived clients with the intention of enabling access to this form of meaningful exchange. At World Relief Durham, one intervention that is related to cultural orientation is the Pathways to Wellness (P2W) class, a weekly group focused on mental health education. This study aims to discuss whether alterations to the number of sessions taught by the Pathways to Wellness class facilitator affects the effectiveness of the teaching offered on mental health for newly arrived refugees.
