Technological Organization of Chipped-Stone Production at Gre Fılla
This study investigates the organization of lithic production by integrating structure-level techno-typological analysis of chipped-stone floor assemblages with obsidian provenance and source-diversity data from Gre Fılla, a Pre-Pottery Neolithic site in the Upper Tigris region. The results indicate strong continuity in domestic technological organization from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA) through the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB). Diachronic change is expressed most clearly in provisioning strategies and blank-production goals, including reduced obsidian diversity and shifts in tool composition. Communal buildings yielded large but internally differentiated assemblages. Obsidian provenance analysis indicates multi-source procurement involving Bingöl B, Bingöl A, Nemrut Dağ, Muş, and Group 3d. Diversity and evenness measures suggest tightening provisioning conditions through time. These patterns suggest that households remained key agents in obsidian acquisition and indicate that techno-typological and provenance analyses at the structure level provide a comparative framework for evaluating technological organization in early sedentary societies.
