Differences in Tubex TF Results Based on Age and Gender Among Patients with Suspected Typhoid at Grandmed Hospital in Lubuk Pakam

Typhoid fever remains an important enteric infection, particularly in areas where fecal-oral transmission persists. Tubex TF is a semi-quantitative serological assay used to detect IgM antibodies against the O9 antigen of *Salmonella Typhi*. This study aimed to analyze differences in Tubex TF results based on age and sex among patients with suspected typhoid fever at Grandmed Hospital, Lubuk Pakam. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 30 eligible patients from January to May 2026. Serum samples were examined using Tubex TF and classified as negative (score ≤2), weak positive (score 4), and strong positive (score 6–10). Data were analyzed descriptively and using the Pearson Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. Of the 30 samples, 2 (6.7%) were negative, 13 (43.3%) were weak positive, and 15 (50.0%) were strong positive. Among male patients, 6 had weak-positive and 9 had strong-positive results. Among female patients, 2 had negative, 7 had weak-positive, and 6 had strong-positive results. The adult group showed the highest number of strong-positive results, with 6 of 10 subjects. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in Tubex TF results based on sex (p=0.262) or age group (p=0.336). In conclusion, Tubex TF results among patients with suspected typhoid fever at Grandmed Hospital were not significantly different according to age or sex. These findings suggest that demographic characteristics alone are insufficient to predict Tubex TF result categories in this study population. Therefore, interpretation should remain integrated with clinical findings, disease duration, and other relevant laboratory examinations.
