Landslides and the Impacts on the Geological Heritage: A Case Study in Quang Binh, Vietnam
Landslide is a common geohazard that often occurs in mountainous areas. In recent years, this phenomenon has caused socio-economic losses and raised concerns regarding the conservation of geological heritage sites. In this study, field investigations, laboratory experiments, mapping, and analysis were conducted to assess landslides, causes, influencing factors, and their impact on geological heritage in former Quang Binh province, Vietnam. The synthetic results indicate that landslides occur frequently along cut roads in mountainous areas of Quang Binh and are triggered by various factors. In which, geological conditions, topography, and rainfall, are the primary contributors. Landslides not only affect road infrastructure but also affect accessibility and tourism activities on geological heritage sites. However, no significant direct damage to the heritage sites themselves was observed. The research results suggest that landslide risk management should be integrated into transportation planning and geotourism development to ensure the sustainable exploitation of geological heritage values.
