INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING SERVICES IN ADDRESSING THE IMPACT OF GADGET ADDICTION ON STUDENTS IN SCHOOLS

The increasing use of gadgets among adolescents may lead to behavioral dependence that affects academic performance and social interactions. This study aims to analyze the manifestations of gadget addiction, the implementation of individual counseling based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavior modification, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in addressing this issue at SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants consisted of three twelfth-grade students identified as having high levels of gadget addiction and one guidance and counseling teacher, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Data trustworthiness was established through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings revealed that gadget addiction was characterized by difficulty managing time, compulsive use, academic procrastination, sleep disturbances, and phubbing. Counseling interventions involved cognitive restructuring and behavior contracts. Supporting factors included students’ openness, parental supervision, and school regulations, while inhibiting factors included the appeal of online games and social media, peer influence, and inadequate parental supervision. This study highlights the importance of collaboration among school counselors, schools, and families in addressing gadget addiction among adolescents.
