Visualising topographic changes in 3D data for rock art and beyond
Abstract As high-resolution 3D documentation in the cultural heritage sector, particularly in rock art research, continues to grow, user-friendly tools for visualising this data are also needed to support research. We developed Topography Visualisation Toolbox (TVT) to address this need within rock art research, particularly for the very shallow carvings in western Sweden. TVT is a desktop app which generates 2D enhanced visualisations of 3D models and point data. In this paper, we provide an overview of TVT and demonstrate its potential use-cases within rock art research and beyond, with a look towards enabling mixed methods research and dissemination to wide audiences. We present several case studies using features of varying scales, from rock carvings to hillforts.
