Synthesis, Structural Characterization and Photoluminescence Properties of Dy³⁺-Activated Na₃Y(BO₃)₂ Borate Phosphors for Near-UV-Excited Solid-State Lighting
Abstract Dy3+ activated sodium yttrium borate phosphor with nominal composition Na3Y1-x Dxy(BO3)2 mathrm {Na3Y1-xDyx(B03)2 } Na3Y1-xDxy (B03)2 were synthesized by a conventional high temperature solid state reaction route using Na2CO3, Y2O3, Dy2O3 and H3BO3 as starting materials. Na3Y(BO3)2 is a monoclinic borate host reported in the P21/Cp21/Cp21/c space group, making Y3+ sites suitable for sovalent replacement by Dy3+ ions. The prepared samples can be examined by powder X-ray diffraction. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy to evaluate phase purity, borate group formation, particle morphology and element distribution next generation material projects. Under near ultraviolet excitation Dy3+ activated samples are expected to exhibit characteristics blue and yellow emission associated with 4F9/2 6H15/2 4F9/2 6H15/2 and 4F 9/2 6H 13/2 4F9/2 6H 13/2 transitions of Dy3+ respectively. The environment around the Dy3+ activator. The effect of Dy3+ concentrations on photoluminescence intensity, decay lifetime chromaticity co-ordinates and concentration quenching should be systematically investigated to identify the optimum activators content. In addition prior work has specifically investigated Ce 3+ to Dy 3+ energy transfer in Na3Y(BO3)2 indicating that Ce3+ sensitization is a phosphor is therefore a potential blue-yellow emitting material for ultraviolet pumped and near UV pumped solid state lighting.
