Penerapan Stimulasi Auditori dan Taktil Untuk Meningkatkan Tingkat Kesadaran Pada Pasien di Intensive Care Unit

Background: Impaired consciousness in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) requires regular monitoring of the level of consciousness. Auditory and tactile stimulation are non-pharmacological interventions that provide sensory input to patients with impaired consciousness. Objective: To identify the application of auditory and tactile stimulation to the level of consciousness in patients with impaired consciousness in the ICU of RSUD Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Samarinda. Methods: A descriptive case study was conducted involving three ICU patients with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of less than 13. Auditory and tactile stimulation was administered twice daily for three days, with each session lasting 15 minutes. The level of consciousness was assessed using the GCS before and after each intervention, accompanied by monitoring of patient responses and clinical conditions. Results: Mr. K demonstrated an improvement in the level of consciousness from E1M1Vett at the beginning of the intervention period to E4M6V5 at the end, accompanied by improved respiratory status and discontinuation of mechanical ventilation. Mr. B showed an improvement from E1M5Vett to E4M5V4, primarily involving the eye-opening component and the emergence of a verbal response that could be assessed. Meanwhile, Mr. G maintained a GCS of E1M1Vett throughout all six intervention sessions and experienced clinical deterioration. Conclusion: The application of auditory and tactile stimulation was accompanied by improvement in the level of consciousness in two of the three patients, whereas one patient showed no change in GCS. Patient responses should be interpreted in consideration of neurological status, mechanical ventilation, sedation, and clinical progression during treatment.
