Diagnóstico e intervención de enfermedades infecciosas desatendidas y crónicas no transmisibles prevalentes en poblaciones vulnerables de la Parroquia San Lorenzo de Jipijapa.

Neglected infectious diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases, such as dengue and diabetes mellitus constitute significant public health concerns due to their clinical, social, and epidemiological impact, particularly in tropical settings and socioeconomic disadvantaged contexts, where the coexistence of both conditions represents an important risk because of the metabolic and immunological alterations that may arise. The aim of this study was to analyze the diagnosis and intervention of prevalent neglected infectious diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases among vulnerable populations in the San Lorenzo parish of Jipijapa. The methodology employed was observational, analytical, cross-sectional, and prospective in nature, using a convenience sample of 40 vulnerable participants residing in Jipijapa, including 21 women (52.5%) and 19 men (47.5%), selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The project complied with the requirements established by the ethics committee. The results showed an active dengue prevalence of 5% (n = 2) and a high rate of previous exposure of 87.5%, while diabetes mellitus also presented a prevalence of 5% (n = 2), with glucose levels >126 mg/dL. No statistically significant association was found between the two conditions (p = 0.739). It was possible to intervene in 100% of the planned population through community training sessions, with balanced participation between men and women, thereby strengthening health promotion within the community. In conclusion, although the frequency was low, both diseases remain present in the vulnerable population; therefore, it is recommended to strengthen vector control, glucose screening, and educational programs aimed at prevention, early detection, and community self-care.
