Penerapan Art Therapy Pada Pasien Skizofrenia dengan Halusinasi Pendengaran: Studi Kasus
Background: Auditory hallucinations are common symptoms in patients with schizophrenia that may affect behavior, social interaction, and daily activities. Free-drawing art therapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that can support patients in managing hallucinations. Objective: This study aimed to describe the implementation of art therapy in a patient with schizophrenia experiencing auditory hallucinations. Methods: A descriptive case study was conducted using the nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 37-year-old male patient with schizophrenia and auditory hallucinations at Yayasan Rehabilitasi Sosial Alfateh, Batam City. Free-drawing art therapy was provided over four days, alongside other hallucination-management strategies, such as dismissing hallucinations, taking medication, communicating with others, and participating in scheduled activities. Results: Initially, the patient reported hearing unclear whispering voices, particularly when alone, and was observed singing, laughing, and speaking to himself. Following the intervention, the whispering voices decreased, the patient no longer followed the hallucinations or spoke to himself, and he showed improvement in initiating conversations and maintaining eye contact. Conclusion: Free-drawing art therapy demonstrated positive outcomes in supporting the patient's ability to manage auditory hallucinations. Therefore, this intervention may be used as a complementary approach in psychiatric nursing care for patients with schizophrenia.
