The Feasibility of Retrofitting Existing Buildings to Utilize Green Roofs

Sustainable design is the practice of implementing sustainability into the design phase of products, services, and buildings to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and better the environment. Most sustainable design looks at new projects, but there is a plethora of existing buildings that are not considered for sustainable design. Green roofs are one of the many ways buildings can be made more sustainable, but our current infrastructure can also be updated for more sustainability. In studying the retrofitting of existing buildings to utilize green roofs, we can find how feasible this sort of retrofitting is on a large scale based on what benefits and/or drawbacks this retrofitting can bring about.
