Living Pancasila dalam Tradisi Saparan pada Masyarakat Lereng Merbabu dalam Arus Budaya Global: The Living Pancasila in the Saparan Tradition among Lereng Merbabu Communities in the Era of Global Cultural Transformation

Saparan is a long-standing cultural tradition practised by communities on the Lereng Merbabu, Central Java, and remains an important marker of collective identity. Saparan functions as a cultural arena where religious expressions, social solidarity, mutual respect, and human-nature relationships are continuously constructed and maintained. This study examines the manifestation of Pancasila values within the Saparan tradition and explores the dynamic interaction between Javanese cultural teachings and religious beliefs in responding to contemporary cultural transformations. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, religious figures, and residents of Sumogawe Village, complemented by participant observation of Saparan rituals. The findings indicate that Saparan represents a lived practice of Pancasila values rather than merely a traditional ceremony. The first principle is reflected in collective prayers, gratitude, and spiritual appreciation of nature. The second principle appears through hospitality, inclusivity, and respect for human dignity. The third principle is embodied in communal participation and social cohesion. The fourth principle is practised through deliberative decision-making in organising cultural activities. The fifth principle is demonstrated through collective sharing, equal involvement, and access to communal resources. The study further reveals that the continuity of Saparan is shaped by the ongoing negotiation between local traditions and religious interpretations. Through symbolic adaptation and cultural reinterpretation, Saparan remains socially meaningful while embracing contemporary changes. Thus, Saparan illustrates Pancasila as a living value system embedded in everyday cultural practices rather than merely a formal national ideology
