THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION IN EUROPE: TOWARDS INCLUSIVE LEARNING

Multilingual education has become an important aspect of European educational policy because of linguistic diversity, migration, and international mobility. It offers opportunities for linguistic development, intercultural understanding, academic mobility, and social inclusion. However, its implementation involves challenges related to educational inequality, teacher preparation, curriculum development, assessment, and the status of minority languages. This article examines the major opportunities and challenges of multilingual education in Europe through a conceptual analysis of academic literature and European educational policy documents. The analysis suggests that successful multilingual education requires more than teaching additional languages. It depends on inclusive teaching practices, qualified teachers, appropriate learning resources, and recognition of learners' linguistic backgrounds. The article concludes that multilingual education can promote educational equity when linguistic diversity is treated as a resource for learning rather than a barrier to academic achievement.
