ALMASI First Training Delivery

This document describes the work carried out for Milestone 5 (M5), First Training Delivery, of the ALMASI Project. It documents how the curriculum framework and training-resource registry were translated into an Editorial Foundational Pathway for journal editors and editorial teams involved in nonprofit and Diamond Open Access scholarly publishing. Developed jointly under Tasks 3.3 and 3.4, the pathway comprises thirteen self-paced courses and an introductory module, delivered in English through the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) Training Platform (https://training.edch.eu/) The document outlines the methodology used to select, adapt, translate, and organise training resources into a coherent learning experience. The courses address journal governance, editorial quality, author rights and open licences, inclusive publishing policies, editorial workflows, peer review, digital preservation, discoverability, metadata, outreach, and journal statistics. The programme combines existing, adapted, and newly developed materials in varied formats, including interactive courses, videos, quizzes, visual guides, and self-reflection activities, supporting practical learning and reuse under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. The first delivery was organised as a pilot, combining asynchronous learning with three live online sessions for orientation, questions and answers, and closing feedback. Recruitment attracted 87 expressions of interest, from which 45 applicants were selected using a combination of registration order and geographical representation across Latin America, Africa, and Europe. The document describes the arrangements for participant access, guidance, and support, alongside the evaluation of the learning pathway. A qualitative synthesis of participant feedback highlights the value of the foundational content and identifies areas for further review, including practical examples, workload, platform navigation, progress tracking, downloadable reference materials, and recognition through certificates or digital badges. These findings are presented as considerations for future developments. By documenting the preparation, delivery, and evaluation of this first pilot, M5 provides a basis for refining the pathway and supporting broader reuse across diverse regional and editorial contexts.
