Breadwinner Men in Patriarchal Society: Privilege or Burden?

Conformation toward masculinity in patriarchal society is less privileged, but most of the time, brings chaos in the lives of men. Finally, it creates a burden on men’s lives. Men have the privilege of economic control and decision-making in the household. However, this privilege transforms into a responsibility to fulfill all the financial needs of the family. To conform to masculinity and become the primary provider of the family, men have to face physical and mental health issues. The research contributes to the knowledge of how patriarchy is not working only against women but also against men, who come under its evaluation at the same time. Patriarchy works as a villain in the relationship between men and women. However, the study’s limited sample size, respondents' segregation, and a definite geographical region suggest the need for further research across diverse regions and diverse populations to gain more comprehensive insights.
