Shared and distinct aggression correlates of schizotypy and vulnerable narcissism

Schizotypy and vulnerable narcissism share interpersonal sensitivity, negative affectivity, hostility, and withdrawal, but it is unclear whether this overlap translates into redundant associations with aggression. We examined covariate-adjusted, interactive, and exploratory dimensional associations with reactive, proactive, and trait aggression. In a cross-sectional online survey, 372 Greek-speaking community adults completed personality and aggression measures. Analyses included adjusted regressions, interaction tests, Holm-corrected dimensional models, and post hoc psychometric and sensitivity assessments. Schizotypy and vulnerable narcissism were moderately correlated ( r = .50) and associated with reactive and trait aggression in the original adjusted models. Schizotypy also retained a proactive-aggression association. Excluding Entitlement Rage attenuated the vulnerable-narcissism association with reactive aggression (β = 0.104, robust p = .070), whereas its trait-aggression association persisted (β = 0.161, robust p = .002). No interaction was statistically detectable. The Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPQ) showed structural-validity concerns. Schizotypy and vulnerable narcissism were both associated with self-reported trait aggression, while schizotypy also retained associations with reactive and proactive aggression. The sensitivity of the vulnerable-narcissism–reactive aggression association to Entitlement Rage highlights the importance of personality-facet content. These findings warrant replication using independently validated, multidimensional aggression measures.
