GENRE STUDIES ON INDONESIAN RESEARCH ARTICLES (2000-2025): A STRUCTURED REVIEW

This study presents a structured qualitative review of genre studies on Indonesian research articles (RAs) published between 2000 and 2025. Although numerous studies have examined the rhetorical structures in Indonesian RAs, no study has synthesized their collective findings to provide a comprehensive overview of developments in the field. The review analysed 28 studies identified through a systematic search and selection process. The data were analysed using qualitative synthesis procedures, including data reduction, categorization, and interpretive analysis. The findings indicate that Indonesian RAs consistently exhibit rhetorical patterns that differ from those expected in English-language international journals, particularly in the introduction and discussion sections. In contrast, the abstract and method sections show partial alignment, although often with limited elaboration. These findings suggest that Indonesian authors may benefit from greater awareness of international rhetorical conventions, particularly when seeking publication in international journals. At the same time, the results highlight the situated nature of rhetorical practices, reflecting local academic traditions and communicative purposes.
