Project-Based Organizations and Gender Inclusion: A Conceptual Review of Mining and Construction
This article examines gender inclusion in project-based sectors, specifically mining and construction. Although both sectors have introduced diversity initiatives, improvements in gender inclusion remain limited. Women continue to encounter barriers linked to project-based work, including inflexible work patterns, mobility requirements, temporary team structures, and inconsistent implementation of inclusion policies. By synthesizing prior research, this review identifies the project-based features and gendered mechanisms that constrain women’s career success and project outcomes. This article offers practical insight into project-based organizations by showing why existing initiatives often fall short and by outlining priorities for building more inclusive project workplaces and career pathways.
