Role of fine-needle aspiration cytology in diagnosing recurrent breast carcinoma at mastectomy scar sites
Recurrence of breast cancer in surgical scars is a frequent challenge after treatment. Prompt detection of recurrent lesions is crucial for timely intervention, optimizing treatment outcomes, and determining prognosis. We report a case of a 37-year-old female presenting with multiple painless nodular lesions in the right breast. Cytology suggested invasive breast carcinoma, which was later confirmed by histopathology. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of lesions in post-breast surgery scars is a reliable, non-invasive, and cost-effective diagnostic tool for early detection. It can serve as the initial diagnostic modality for identifying recurrent breast carcinoma following treatment.
