The Microwave Auditory Effect, Project PANDORA, RF Bioeffects, and the Cold War Research Network A Verified History from Radar Research to Directed Energy Bio-Effects (1940s–2026)

This book presents an evidence-controlled history of the microwave auditory effect (MAE), known as the Frey effect, and the Cold War radiofrequency bioeffects research network in which it developed. Drawing on declassified CIA, ARPA and Army documents, FOIA releases and the published scientific literature, it traces the verified lineage from wartime radar and the 1947 Airborne Instruments Laboratory auditory complaints, through the Tri-Service microwave programme and Allan Frey's rigorous 1961–62 experiments, to the thermoelastic explanation of microwave-induced sound. It documents how the Moscow Signal led ARPA to establish Project PANDORA in 1965 and the programme's formal 1970 transfer to Walter Reed, and follows the bridge into open academic research via Sharp–Grove–Gandhi and the University of Washington MAE programme. Rigorously distinguishing documented continuities from unsupported claims, the book concludes with the post-2016 Havana Syndrome investigations and the 2026 establishment of the Directed Energy Bio-Effects Cross-Functional Team.
