Fig. S3.2. Chapter 3: Sediment geochemistry and clast stratigraphy of the Port Askaig Formation

Fig. S3.2. Box-and-whisker plots of chemical elements. Plots of chemical elements from the PAF diamictite matrix dataset showing the interquartile range in red, median as black bar, 'whiskers' extending to the most extreme data point not more than 1.5 times the interquartile range, and outliers as open circles. Outliers are defined to be data outside the 'whiskers'. Data for each element's concentration have been normalized to their respective mean value. Average concentrations of major elements in the UCC and in PAAS are inserted for comparison and shown with, respectively, a blue- or gold-coloured bar. The analysed data for the major elements are from 165 diamictite matrix samples and data for the REE and trace elements are from 149 diamictite matrix samples. The total iron content of Fe (II) and Fe (III) is summarized as Fe2O3. In the group of major elements (a) the largest observed Fe2O3 outlier is in D19, the largest outlier in P2O5 is coupled to the same high Fe2O3 value in D19 and all CaO, MgO and LOI outliers belong to the carbonate-rich Member 1. No outliers were removed from the dataset except those mentioned in the text.

Abstract

Fig.
