Development Of A Pharmaceutical Education Leaflet on Sexually Transmitted Infections (IMS) For Islamic Boarding School Students

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) remain one of the major health problems among adolescents, influenced by their limited knowledge regarding the causes, modes of transmission, prevention, and management of these infections. Islamic boarding school students (santri), as a group of adolescents living in boarding school environments, require educational media that are effective, engaging, and easy to understand to improve their knowledge of STIs. This study aimed to identify the baseline level of knowledge among santri regarding STIs, analyze the effectiveness of leaflet-based pharmaceutical educational media in improving their knowledge, and examine the differences in knowledge levels between male and female santri after receiving the educational intervention. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model and a one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group. The study involved 60 santri, consisting of 30 males and 30 females, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Mann–Whitney Test. The results demonstrated an increase in the santri's level of knowledge following the educational intervention using leaflet media. The Wilcoxon test indicated significant differences between the pretest and posttest scores among both female santri (p = 0.025) and male santri (p = 0.007). The Mann–Whitney test also revealed a significant difference in knowledge levels between male and female santri after the intervention (p = 0.001). Therefore, leaflet-based pharmaceutical educational media were effective in improving santri's knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and demonstrated differences in knowledge levels based on gender.
