Non-local correction of the misfit interaction in the Peierls–Nabarro model of dislocations

The non-local correction of the misfit interaction in the Peierls–Nabarro (P–N) model is obtained through a requirement to recover the results of the harmonic lattice dynamics in the linear regime. The correction is specifically investigated using a triangular lattice model and a cubic lattice model. It is found that the non-local correction has no effect on the screw dislocation addressed in the cubic lattice model. For the edge dislocation, the fundamental equation is formally invariant and the non-local correction modifies the physical parameters in the equation. In particular, parameter changes are quantitatively examined under the isotropic approximation. Generally, the non-local effects reduce the dislocation width and increase the Peierls stress.
