Influence of Fabric Color on Scanned Texture: A Study on Digital Texture Color Card Production

ABSTRACT The texture and color of a digital fabric card influence each other. The texture affects the perception of color, while the color also has an impact on the visual effect of the texture. Taking monochrome woven fabrics as research objects, this study adopts hierarchical clustering as an empirical method to verify the regular influence of fabric original color on scanned texture quality, and summarizes the specific correlation rules between color attributes and texture features. To address the impact of the original fabric color on the effectiveness of digital texture color card production, this study categorizes the colors of the original fabric images into three groups according to the clustering outcomes. Based on the concluded rules, this study proposes a classified production scheme for digital texture color cards. Combined with color‐texture fusion algorithms and image processing technologies, physical fabrics within each color group are selected as texture templates for scanning, and then digital texture color cards corresponding to each category are produced. The results indicate that the texture similarity of the digital texture color card is notably improved after classification compared to before classification, and the generated digital texture color cards exhibit minimal color differences and high texture similarity across fabrics with varying textures. The digital texture color card proposed in this study can be applied to virtual clothing displays, which is helpful for designers in visually presenting the combination effects of different textures and colors.
