AN ANTHROPOCENTRIC AND LINGUOCULTURAL INTERPRETATION OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS FORMED FROM PHYTONYMS IN TURKISH

This article explores the anthropocentric and linguocultural characteristics of phraseological units derived from phytonyms in the Turkish language, focusing on their semantic structures, metaphorical meanings, and cultural significance. The study examines how plant names are incorporated into idiomatic expressions to conceptualize human personality, emotions, behavior, physical appearance, and social relationships. Drawing on anthropocentric linguistics, cognitive semantics, and linguocultural theory, the research investigates the relationship between language, human cognition, and culturally embedded perceptions of the natural world. Particular attention is given to the symbolic and metaphorical functions of phytonyms such as gül (rose), diken (thorn), ağaç (tree), çiçek (flower), and meyve (fruit) in Turkish phraseological expressions. The analysis highlights how plant-based metaphors reflect traditional values, collective experiences, cultural stereotypes, and culturally specific models of human character and behavior.
