Analgesic and Mucoprotective Activities of Honey Pineapple (Ananas comosus L.) Juice in Mus musculus

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used to treat pain, but could cause gastric mucosal damage with long-term use due to an imbalance between aggressive and defensive factors. Therefore, natural ingredients with analgesic and gastroprotective potential were considered promising alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the analgesic and mucoprotective activities of honey pineapple (Ananas comosus L.) juice in mice. Analgesic activity was assessed using the writhing test, while mucoprotective effects were evaluated through macroscopic and microscopic observations. This experimental study included normal control, negative control (carrier), positive control (aspirin and omeprazole), and treatment groups receiving honey pineapple juice at doses of 80, 160, and 240 mg/20 g Body Weight (BW). Pain inhibition based on the number and duration of writhing was 31.38% and 62.13%, respectively. Macroscopic observations of mucoprotection showed a pH level of 3.50 and a reduction in the number of ulcers by approximately 50%. Microscopic observations, including histopathological examination of the stomach, showed a thickness of 8816.327 µm and no inflammatory cell infiltration. Therefore, the results indicate that honey pineapple juice at a dose of 240 mg/20 g BW provides the most effective results, both as an analgesic and as a mucoprotective agent.
