Level 3 Music Qualifications - mapping changes in the landscape since 2012
Text and slides of a presentation given at the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Music Education on 26th October 2026. This presentation shares a series of maps drawn from data prepared by Dr Stephen Tatlow, as part of an ongoing collaboration with Dr Adam Whittaker and Dr Robert Gardiner. It offers a brief discussion of some regional variations, including areas where Level 3 music provision has decreased substantially. It sets out the importance of looking beyond national headlines of headcount and looking in more detail at the local ecologies of music education. The maps are shared with the permission of Dr Tatlow and Dr Gardiner, and are the result of ongoing collaborative research.
