Membentuk Identitas Umat Allah Melalui Praktik Kebajikan: Kajian Hermeneutis Mazmur 128 Dalam Perspektif Alasdair Macintyre

This study aims to explain the formation of the identity of God’s people by examining the relationship between the fear of the LORD and community life, as emphasized in Psalm 128. Psalm 128 defines the identity of God’s people and emphasizes its connection to the community. However, Psalm 128 does not explain how that identity is formed within community life. Using a hermeneutical method that considers meaning within the structure and context of Psalm 128 and the dialogue between the text’s horizon and the interpreter’s horizon, this study explains the process of this identity formation. Through Alasdair MacIntyre’s virtue ethics, serving as an interpretive framework, this study demonstrates that the Torah is an authoritative narrative that is continually socialized for regular practice by God’s people. The result is the internalization of the principles of the Torah, which shape a worldview that determines the disposition of God’s people in their thinking and actions. This communal process shapes the unique identity of Israel as a people who fear the LORD.
